Interview with the founder
In my love to Thailand I came across Volunt2Thai and I was interested in the history of Volunt2Thai. Mr. Wagner, who came to Thailand by accident after completing his education was ready for an interview.
Mr. Wagner, how does Volunt2Thai work?
Volunt2thai first started as a private initiative that I launched in 2014 with the support of my family and some close friends. It is a project that should be sustainable and a kind of help for self-help. We want to give the children of the surrounding villages a future and to vitalize the region.
How did you get involved privately?
To explain that, I have to think back 25 years. After completing my education, I was able to save some money and planned to go to Australia. By accident, however, I landed in Thailand, in Bangkok. I was always eager to learn, I easily learned the Thai language, so I soon got assignments as an interpreter for various companies. Right next to the office buildings and the house where I lived laid the slums. I often stayed in these - on the one hand to learn the language in conversation with the people, on the other hand, to learn how life works in Bangkok. I found out how people of the same age where doing without education. I learned about the cares and needs of young families, young women and men.
V2T was started in 2014 with the aims of helping farmers and their families and to encourage the development of the region with particular emphasis on guiding the children of the villages to a better future. V2T has since grown and with the constant expansion of its network, it has become a Campus & Cultural Center and platform for all kinds of projects.
V2T is to broaden the boundaries of the children and improve their understanding of the world with our influence and presence so that when they grown up they will be able to act in a wider intercultural dimension. With a better understanding of the world they occupy, they will be better equipped to determine their own destiny. In simplest terms "all project participants will have left behind knowledge and good memories".
V2T, Volunt2Thai - Volunteer to Thailand is an state-licensed association
and has its headquarters in Vienna (Volunt2Thai Austria – association for the promotion of volunteer work). Among our partners is the state aided organization "Weltwegweiser" (“Jugend eine Welt"), supported by the Austrian Development Agency (Agentur der Österreichischen Entwicklungszusammenarbeit).
Through our cooperation with "Worldwide Volunteers”, German volunteers can receive sponsorship from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), allowing them to work with us for a so called "social year" (Entwicklungspolitischer Freiwilligendienst weltwärts). Additionally students can apply for a scholarship in combination with internship at Volunt2Thai.
